Easy As One event in Florida sees 300lbs of paper recycled

Florida's Department of Environmental Protection launched the 'Easy As One' campaign's first regional collection fair over the weekend in Tallahassee on the Downtown MarketPlace grounds. More than 2,400 plastic bags were recycled at the event, and 300 pounds of paper goods were shredded and sent to be recycled. Additionally, a total of 50 old mobile handsets were collected and given to the Big Bend Victim Assistance Coalition. DEP Deputy Secretary Mimi Drew said that the collection event proved that recycling can make a difference. Sprint moves to easy-to-recycle mobile phone packaging

Sprint, a popular American mobile phone network, has designed new mobile phone packaging that can be reused to recycle an old mobile for free. The new packaging will debut with the Samsung Seek line this month. The new package will encourage customers of the network to reuse the box to recycle an old mobile. The new system will be used on two-thirds of packaging for the new phone model, and simply requires customers to place their old mobile phone into the package and return it for free to Sprint. Envirofone finds UK households hoarding WEEE waste instead of recycling

According to a new report, the sheer amount of old mobile phones and other electronic refuse scattered about households across the UK could pay off one fifth of the nation's budget deficit. An astonishing one-third of the £28 billion worth of electrical equipment will be thrown out this year. But it will not be sent to recycle; most of that percentage will end up in landfill sites in the country and overseas. As Earth Week concludes across the globe today, MyWireless.org, a national consumer advocacy site, has called for all wireless handset users to increase their efforts to be more eco-friendly. AT&T steps up initiatives for Earth Week

AT&T announced a new eco-friendly initiative in celebration of Earth Day's 40th anniversary. Initiatives will include a 40 per cent discount on AT&T's ZERO charger to any customer that recycles an old mobile device at an AT&T retailer. The new eco-friendly charger will be available in May, and participants can claim their charger once it hits stores next month. Walgreens launches mobile phone recycling campaign

Walgreens has announced the launch of a new recycling programme aimed at promoting mobile phone and ink cartridge recycling at all store locations. Beginning 22 April, Earth Day, all Walgreens's customers can drop off any used or unwanted mobile handsets or ink cartridges at their nearest Walgreens photo counter. Samsung partners with Sprint to break Guinness World Record

Samsung Mobile will partner with Sprint to break the current Guinness World Record for largest amount of donated mobile phones for recycling. The competition, which will look to replace the existing record for highest number of mobiles collected at one location, will take place 15-18 April. The collaboration is part of the March to a Million programme being put on by Samsung Mobile.
