Stone Group calls out public sector to recycle e-waste more responsibly

A recent BBC exposé showed evidence that some organisations may be transporting their broken hardware overseas. Stone Group, a hardware supplier, has widely criticised public sector organisations that allow e-waste to be shipped abroad for illegal dumping. The Group stated that it was disappointed to see IT hardware being dumped on other continents following a BBC programme highlighting the illegal practice. Public sector ogranisations were accused of transporting redundant IT equipment to waste sites in Ghana in a BBC3 spot that aired last week. Mobile phone recycling is continuing to grow in popularity. As mobile phone manufactures and service providers continue to plug the importance of mobile recycling, more and more internet sites are popping up to help consumers get the best deal for their old mobile handsets. Office Depot customers recycle 562 tonnes of e-waste

Global office supply retailer, Office Depot, reports that the company successfully recycled 562 tonnes of e-waste through its Tech Trade-In promotion during Earth Day. The office supply firm, in recognition of Earth Day's 40th anniversary, launched the initiative with an aim to collect at least 400 tonnes of electronic rubbish to recycle. Office Depot was able to surpass its goal, collecting over 560 tonnes from customers. Included in the recycled waste collected by Office Depot were shredders, laptops, ink cartridges, printers, and digital cameras. Cartridge World, in honour of Earth Day, is promoting ink cartridge recycling around communities in an effort to remind community members of the importance of helping the environment in ways that save money too. In North America, according to research, up to 350 million cartridges are sent to landfill each year. An ink cartridge sent to waste can take 450 years to decompose. WRAP says UK households must recycle ink cartridges

New statistics revealing the amount of waste from food which families are not able to recycle has spurred on environmental groups to urge households to recycle used printer cartridges. It is hoped this will help salvage a somewhat green approach to household waste management. Recycling body, WRAP, stated that the average households in the UK had a combined waste up to 8.3 billion tonnes of food per year. A figure which equals £12 billion. UK schools use ink cartridge recycling programme to raise funds

UK schools will join forces with a local environmental group in order to recycle mobile phones and old ink cartridges. The scheme will look to decrease the number of these types of items being sent to landfill across the UK. The community scheme could potentially raise  £5 million in funding for UK schools. Dubbed the Support Your School programme, the scheme will be handled by Environmental Business Products (EBP). Myrtle Beach Revamps Recycling Habits

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is set to revamp its recycling habits, which currently are plagued with out-dated facilities and lack of resources. However, now thanks to Fisher Recycling, a local waste management company, companies in the popular resort town will now be able to recycle plastic, glass, and aluminium. Previously, due to a lack of service and facility companies in the Myrtle Beach area could not even recycle the most basic recyclables such as glass and plastic.
