Ford extends Recycle Your Ride incentive programme

Thanks to overwhelming consumer feedback, Ford is to extend its Recycle Your Ride scheme. According to the company, nearly 60 per cent of the firm's vehicles in Canada are old enough to qualify for the car makers' retirement programme. Ford has said that beginning 1 May 2010, customers who turn in a 2003 model vehicle or older will receive up to $3,000 to put towards a 2010 Lincoln or Ford model vehicle. In conjunction with Summerhill Impact, Ford will be able to expand the programme to reach more consumers. WRAP award winners announced

Judges for award facilitator Building magazine have announced the winning firms for this year's WRAP sustainable construction awards. The competition, which seeks to identify the most sustainable building firm each year, was won by Wilmott Dixon. Wilmott Dixon's dedication to sustainable building, according to the judges, made the firm stick out in the competition. Additionally, Wilmott Dixon was one of the first building firm to sign up for WRAP's Halving Waste to Landfill scheme. The contractor was able to divert 85 per cent of its waste from landfill. Goldman Environment Prize winners announced

The Goldman Environment Prize, often called the 'Green Nobel Prize', is one of the planet's most prestigious green awards. This year six people were awarded the prize at the ceremony, which took place at the San Francisco Opera House on Monday. Prize winners this year hail from all over the globe. Tesco wins Green Retailer of the Year award

This year's Green Retailer of the Year award was given to Tesco at the end of March by the Drinks Business Green Awards. The awards, held annually, are given out to businesses that have made an outstanding effort in eco-friendly retail habits. In recent years, the international supermarket chain has implemented several schemes designed to promote sustainable business practices. Many of these methods have surrounded alcoholic beverages and the company's commitment to making them more environmentally friendly. NLWA receives £258.4 million government grant

The North London Waste Authority (NLWA) became the recipient of a record-breaking grant which will aim to improve upon recycling and waste management across North London. The government aid package, worth £258.4 million, was awarded from the Private Finance Initiative. By 2045, the flagship project will handle up to three per cent of overall national waste tonnage making it, arguably, the most valuable investment in West Europe. The grant will go towards a host of new waste management facilities, including materials recovery facilities which sort recyclables, treatment facilities, household waste and recycling centres, and an anaerobic digestion plant. Lancashire Community Recycling Network offer sustainable development grants

Members of the Lancashire Community Recycling Network (CRN) are being encouraged to apply for grants to help increase their existing eco-credentials. The grant, which encompasses a £15,000 award for green projects, would be a one-off which relevant groups can apply for. The monetary award will be granted to the group with the best sustainable scheme which is designed to prevent waste from ending up at landfill. the CRN announced the funding opportunity at their annual Strengthen, Survive and Thrive conference. Try Recycling nominated for London Chamber awards

The London-based recycling firm, Try Recycling, has been named as a finalist for the third time for the London Chamber of Commerce’s Business Achievement Awards. Owner and CEO Jim Graham is glad for Try Recycling’s inclusion and for the acknowledgement given by the public to the firm’s work. Try Recycling won the chamber's environmental award two years ago. Northumberland couple wins recycling competition

Two Northumberland locals won a laptop and a printer have competing in the City Council's awareness campaign to encourage residents and households to recycle. George and Liz Sancaster, from Cramlington, entered to compete in the City Council sponsored competition and came out the winners. Entries were made by visiting the council's website and watching a short video on recycling. Potential competitors than were asked one question about the video. £28 million will be used to improve London’s waste management infrastructure

New funding from the London Waste and Recycling Board has been allocated for the development of better waste infrastructure for the municipality. The £28 million fund will look to support projects which aim to further develop London's waste infrastructure. Various projects to receive the funding will be chosen over the next year. Europe gave the fund £18 million last year, and asked for applications for grants to allocate the funding. That money was used to fund reuse schemes as well as the Recycle for London campaign. Liverpool youth wins business award for composting system

At the Northwest Ethnic Minority Business Awards this year, A mini eco system which aims to recycle food waste and decrease waste sent to landfill was the recipient of the Young Entrepreneur of the Year title. Designed by Kenneth Cheung from Liverpool, the system creates compost which allows seeds to be ready for planting in just 14 days.
