Corby Brings Back Glass Recycling

This month, households in Corby have been re-introduced to a glass recycling scheme. It will be the first time in over a year since the previous scheme was closed and residents were forced to separate the glass for other recycling measures. Previously, residents could place their glass into their yellow boxes but the system was replaced by a three bin scheme which left no place for glass.

Now, residents can put glass jars and bottles into brown bins to be taken up via kerbside collection. No longer will people have to separate their glass for recycling.

Starting September 1 plastic items such as waxed cartons, jar lids loose bottle tops, and other clean plastic items such as ice cream tubs, yoghurt pots, and margarine tubs can also be recycled.

Cllr David Harley, lead member for Environment at Corby Council told the Telegraph: “This is great news for Corby residents who already do a fantastic job with recycling, as not only can they now recycle glass in their brown bin but also extra plastics as well.

“Hopefully, this will make a marked difference to our recycling rate and reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.”

If an unacceptable item is put into any brown bin, the bin will not be collected at kerbside. Instead, a red tag will be placed on the bin stating the nature of the problem. If you receive a red tag, remove the unacceptable item(s) along with the red tag and resume recycling as usual.
