As the world becomes more involved in recycling and reusing, the remanufacturing industry has become an integral part of the recycling industry. Many people are unaware of the remanufacturing sector and what it’s all about. However, this “invisible” entity is responsible for employing over 50,000 people and contributes approximately £5 billion per year to the UK’s economy.
In a nutshell, remanufacturing companies take used items, remove valuable components and materials, and then turn around and manufacture them into a new product. The products produced can be the same as the original item or something completely different. Often times, the new products tend to be stronger and longer lasting than the original. Not only does the process save resources but it also creates jobs and does a great deal for the economy.
Candidly, the remanufacturing industry has blossomed due to a wide range of business opportunities rather than the desire to save the planet. But regardless of the initial purpose, the results are the same.
In order to help people access free and valuable information on remanufacturing, a Government-funded initiative known as The Centre for Remanufacturing and Reuse (CRR) has launched a new website to assist in the search for resources. As an added bonus, an RSS newsfeed is available for those who wish to have the information delivered directly to their desktops.
According to the CRR, “The site is also home to the UK’s largest database of remanufacturers, allowing customers to find companies to remanufacture their products.”
