Some kids have already started back to school, while others are merely waiting. Students may not be the only ones feeling anxious, however. Many parents are faced with the expenses incurred by school, including the cost of a new computer.
Since March of this year, the Goodwill Store in Houston, Texas, has offered a solution. Houston is just one of many Goodwill Stores that participates in the Good Works programme in conjunction with Dell. To save money, many parents and students (include university students) are shopping at Goodwill when it’s time to get a computer, clothing or even furniture. The prices at Goodwill are affordable and may lessen the anxiety of those who can’t afford to go out to one of the electronics retail stores and pay full price.
“People don’t always have the $800 to $1,000 to pay for a new computer at Best Buy, but we have refurbished computers that can be purchased, some between $100 and $200,” said Houston Goodwill’s Kate Lucrezi in an interview with the Katy Times.
In addition to selling computers, Goodwill accepts used electronics, including computers. Many people keep old computers for parts or simply don’t know what to do with them once they have outlived their usefulness. Some may know of WEEE recycling programmes but may not have access. Goodwill is the answer.
“It’s something we do every year,” Lucrezi said. “We get so many donations over the summer. From clothes to fall fashions, even computers. We want buyers to be able to save money on things like jeans and backpacks without having to spend so much.”
Goodwill is also good for the community via its employment programmes targeted at adults with obstacles to employment.
