Coventry Teen Vies for Miss Earth UK Title

Letitia Morgan aspires to rise to the title of Miss Earth UK during the ceremonies at the Royal Spa Centre, Leamington, on August 30. As one might guess, the theme behind the pageant is saving the environment.

The top honour at the pageant is Miss Earth, followed by runner up positions, Miss Fire, Miss Air, and Miss Water. The winner will move on to compete against 90 other countries in an International Miss Earth pageant. The prize will also include a purse of £10,000 and a carbon car.

Morgan, 19, works as a barmaid and is passionate about recycling. When she stands before the judges during the competition, Morgan’s plan is to sway them by talking rubbish. Morgan doesn’t plan to use foul language as a platform for the title. Instead, she intends to speak of how people need to do more to recycle waste.

Morgan, who lives on Sphinx Drive in Stoke, said: “We don’t do enough to recycle and it annoys me that not everyone has a recycling bin.

“There should be bins available to everyone for different waste like glass and cardboard.

“I’m always telling my friends and family to switch off lights and stop wasting electricity.

“If I win I want to talk to councillors and see what difference I can make to change the way we live.

“The judges want to see someone with confidence to spread the word on ways we can change the environment and the pageant stresses the importance of educating people on the three Rs, reduce, reuse and recycle - that’s what I want to come across on the night.”
