Reuse Computers and Supplies Instead of Recycling

There is a tremendous amount of information published about recycling e-waste, including computers, laptops, notebooks, monitors, and more. However, many individuals and organisations are overlooking another alternative - reusing unwanted electronics. Used computers can be a godsend to charitable organisations or educational facilities that simply do not have the budget to invest in new equipment. Reusing also saves costs when it comes to the recycling process since virtually no work has to be done to repurpose old electronics. Naturally, before donating used electronics, donators should test equipment to make sure it is in good working order. Hard drives should also be wiped clean or replaced to prevent sensitive information from being disseminated outside the home or company.

There are many other supplies around the home and office that can be reused instead of being recycled, even if the items are repurposed for your own use. For example, printed papers can be used for the blank second side, cutting down on paper waste. Computer paper can be cut into fourths and padded or stapled into note paper or scratch pads. Old greeting cards can be cut apart to make unique gift tags, particularly if you punch a hole in the corner and add a decorative ribbon.

Old sheets and blankets are always in demand. They can be used to cover furniture or perform as a perfect drop cloth for painting or other messy work. Old blankets are useful for moving furniture and are always appreciated at animal shelters.

Regardless of the items one chooses to reuse, it is also fun to make repurposing materials a fun game for kids to test their imaginations.
