LG, U.S. based manufacturer of electronics, has announced a nationwide electronics recycling program designed to give customers a convenient way to recycle old and unwanted consumer electronics products including TVs, computers, computer monitors and more.
LG has joined forces with WM Recycle America, a subsidiary of Waste Management, which it has recently opened 106 recycling locations throughout the U.S. The company plans to have operational recycling sites in every state by September.
“Our program encourages consumers to dispose of unwanted electronics in an environmentally responsible manner,” stated Teddy Hwang, LG Electronics USA president.
Hwang referred to the LG Electronics Recycling Program as a “multimillion-dollar U.S. recycling commitment” that “reflects LG’s global sustainability initiative that also encompasses energy conservation, reduction of hazardous substances and responsible product designs.”
The agreement between the two companies will allow consumers to drop off their damaged, used, obsolete or unwanted electronic items at one of the designated WM eCycling Centers.
Unlike many other programmes, the eCycling Centers will not require any type of fee to take back any “LG-, Zenith- and Goldstar-branded televisions, monitors, audio equipment, video cassette players and recorders, DVD players and recorders, combination TV/VCR and TV/DVD units, set-top boxes and accessories associated with those products,” LG said. Other products may be accepted for a small fee.
WM Recycle America is currently working on a similar project with Sony, titled the “Sony Take Back Recycling Program.”
