Staples Hosts Teacher Appreciation Day

Staples is continuing its crusade to help teachers procure the tools they need by hosting a Teacher Appreciation Day at retail store locations throughout the U.S. According to Quality Education Data, Inc. (QED), teachers spend an average of $475 of their own money each year on materials and supplies for their classrooms.
“A tough economy and tighter budgets mean teachers are spending more of their own money to keep their classrooms stocked,” said Shira Goodman, executive vice president of marketing for Staples. “Teacher Appreciation Day is our way of letting teachers know how much they are valued and to make it easy for them to have the supplies they need to do their job. Last year, more than 280,000 teachers came to Staples stores nationwide to receive Teacher Appreciation Day gift bags, and we hope to help even more teachers in 2008.”

Teacher Appreciation Day, scheduled for August 2, is not the first Staples programme to reward teachers for their efforts. Staples Teacher Rewards is a rebate scheme designed to assist teachers who spend their own money on school products.

The Teacher Bonus Season, which runs from 15 July 15 through to 15 September, is also a programme that rewards teachers. During the season, Staples will give a double credit to Rewards members. That is, for every dollar Staples Teacher Rewards members spend, it will count as $2 instead of one regarding earning rewards.

One of the most popular programmes is the ink and toner recycling rewards programme. Teachers can take used ink and toner cartridges to any Staples store for recycling and receive $3 in Teacher Rewards for each acceptable cartridge.
