Tidy Text is the Ultimate Reminder

It seems that everyone has a use for text messaging, whether it’s to friends, family or colleagues. Cardiff council has decided to take texting one step further by introducing Tidy Text, a text messaging system that provides consumers with a reminder about placing their bins out for collection. The Tidy Text initiative was designed and introduced by the Echo-backed Keep Cardiff Tidy Campaign.

Customers who wish to receive the reminders can sign up to receive free weekly reminders about collections, a programme that is sure to be a great help to remove confusion about which bins need to go out on what day. The pilot scheme should also promote recycling in the capital and prevent bins being put out on the wrong day. The programme will be especially useful when collection days are altered due to bank holidays.

Margaret Jones, Cardiff Council’s cabinet member for the environment: “In a world where there is a vital need to recycle far more, ways in which we can more effectively inform people of their correct recycling day arrangements are welcomed.

“Tidy Text is a very direct opt-in system which is also an environmentally friendly way of communicating with people. We hope as many residents as possible will sign up to benefit from this trial project.”

Tegryn Jones, chief executive of Keep Wales Tidy, said: “You cannot get much more direct than communicating important environmental messages to peoples’ mobile phones at their request.”

Perhaps Tidy Text can also be used to remind people how important it is to recycle their old mobile phones as well.
