Green products not only help to preserve valuable resources, they can also help you to save money. In fact, a recent study shows that UK residents could save as much as £5 billion a year on their everyday bills if they chose to use materials and products that are green and/or sustainable.
Green products are manufactured using sustainable materials that may cost less, are recyclable, and reduce harm to the environment. Sustainable products can include anything from electronics to food to cleaning products through to apparel.
Climate Change has released a study on the availability of green products and claims there is a lack of effort to promote green goods in supermarkets. In fact, many people are unaware of the importance on green friendly materials.
“We know people are concerned about their effect on the environment,” says Climate Change Minister Joan Ruddock.
“But they don’t get to see the full picture of what goes into producing the goods they buy and they don’t see what happens after they’ve thrown them away.”
While many agencies claim we are not doing enough to change, there is proof that a smaller amount of biodegradable waste is being sent to landfills and more energy is being recovered from waste. Household recycling rates have increased 33 percent since the early 2007. Many people are taking advantage of increased services as well as the availability of recycled and recyclable items such as electronics, ink cartridges, paper, and more.
