The Norwich City Football Club has teamed up with the Broadland District Council to create a Yellow and Greener initiative by installing three mobile phone recycling banks across the district. The used phones will be delivered to Love2Recycle for reuse and recycling. The funds raised by the recycling efforts will go to the Academy Tactic Zone appeal.
“This latest scheme represents just one of the new initiatives Broadland are rolling out to try and push their recycling rate above the 50pc mark,” said Councillor John Fisher, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Policy Development.
“Other schemes like the food waste trial, a waste wood recycling project, the growing number of bring bank locations and a kerbside contamination crackdown, also contribute to Broadland District Council’s recycling success. The cost of refuse collection going down helps to enable us to keep council tax low for our residents.”
Studies show that nearly 15 million handsets are sent to landfill every year in the UK.
Jeremy Goss, Community Ambassador and Norwich City legend, handed over the bright yellow bins at Thorpe Lodge last week. He said: “It’s great that the recycling of mobile phones will benefit the Club’s Academy, in particular the Tactic Zone initiative, which currently stands at over £180,000.
“It’s a great way and a simple way for our fans to play their part in helping to secure the future of the club.”
