Leicestershire MBT Plans Revealed

The plans for the new mechanical biological treatment facility in Leicestershire have been submitted by Lafarge Aggregates. The facility will be designed by New Earth Solutions and the plans show that the facility will be “well screened from neighbouring properties”.

Lafarge Aggregates has been responsible for submitting the planning application for the advanced mechanical biological treatment (MBT) plant to the Leicestershire county council. The application has been prepared and submitted in partnership with New Earth Solutions, a Dorset-based organisation who has developed “a range of processes for the biological treatment of commercial and municipal wastes”.

The application details an “integrated waste management and recycling service” at Lafarge quarry. The quarry is located near Lutterworth in Leicestershire. Construction on the MBT facility is on schedule for later this year.

According to the Lafarge Aggregates corporate web site, “Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete UK is a leader in innovative concretes, advanced asphalts, and natural and recycled aggregates. We are proud of our hands-on approach to safety, customer service and sustainability.”

The application for the treatment facility was no surprise to council members. Just six weeks previous to the application’s submission, the council of awarded the construction material producer and recycler a five-year 30,000-50,000 tonnes per annum contract for residual waste treatment.

Tim Deal, Lafarge senior planning and estates director, said: “I have seen the New Earth Solutions facility at first hand and am very impressed with the simplicity and efficiency of the operation.”
