America celebrates its birthday today and there are some who feel that it’s a good time to remind the world we should be focused toward preserving what resources we have while being responsible about recycling every day items such as computers, phones, paper, and other items. There are ways in which we can all save energy and most of them don’t require a lot of effort.
Here are some examples:
1.) Curb air conditioner use. It’s a common fact that air conditioners can suck up a lot of energy whether it’s through electricity or fuel. No one is suggesting that you sweat through the hottest months of the year. Simply turning off the AC at night and opening a window can make a big difference in the electric bill. Close the windows in the morning and you’ll be surprised how cool your house will be throughout the course of the day.
2.) Turn off your computer at night. Many people leave their computers on at all times. There was once a rumor that it was better to do that than to keep turning them off and on. However, if you turn it off at night, you’ll be sure to notice a big difference on next month’s electric bill.
3.) Leave your car at home. Walk, ride a bike or scooter, or take the bus. It may not be as inconvenient as you think and it’s a lot healthier.
4.) Recycle your old cell phone! There are tons of great charities that can make money from recycled phones. Maybe it will inspire you to clean out your junk drawer while you’re at it.
