Third World Countries Benefit from Recycled Phones

By now, everyone knows that you’re supposed to recycle your old mobile phone instead of tossing it into the trash where it will end up in landfill purgatory. Many people try to make a reasonable effort to be environmentally responsible but there are still some out there who, for some reason, still insist on keeping their old mobile phones around and eventually those old phones are forgotten.

New fundraising and incentive programmes may help these hoarders let go of their old phones. The effort to recycle your old mobile phone is really quite minimal and the result may be a very positive one for people all over the world, namely in third world countries.

The third world countries may not be very advanced in some ways, but mobile phones are becoming a big part of the culture. In fact, mobile phones are becoming quite popular and the trend is growing rapidly. In the UK, U.S., and other more technologically advanced places, mobile phones are a way of life - most people couldn’t imagine living without one. In third world countries however, the concept is still relatively new and many people are astounded by the benefits. For example, mobile phones can be the difference between life and death in medical situations. Previously, timely medical care was not a given, particularly in remote areas. Additionally, mobile phones will promote the launch of more independent small businesses which could easily be responsible for creating a good economy in depressed areas.

Next time you think about tossing your old phone in a drawer, think again.
