Recycling Week in Gloucestershire

In Gloucestershire, children were invited to participate in recycling week activities designed to promote more recycling. Students at Longlevens Junior School used green recycling boxes in order to recreate the recycling e swoosh and launch recycling week in their community.

A spokesman from the Gloucestershire County Council, said: “Some items are recycled more than others. Only around 30% of clear glass containers are recycled compared to 60% for green and brown glass.”

Since the theme of recycling week was recycling “just one more thing”, the week tried to highlight some of the results of recycling in the past. For example, 25 plastic bottles can be transformed into fleece. Items such as bin liners, building insulation, and garden furniture can be turned into this warm material through recycling. In addition, often overlooked items can also be recycled including shower gel bottles and sun cream bottles.

On Thursday, the County Council focused on the environmental efforts of their own staff. Not only did they seek to educate their workers, but they also provided free stuff along with information and advice.

In addition, several Recycling Road shows were held throughout the week across the County. On Tuesday the Waste Management Team brought the road show to Gloucester City Centre and on Friday it visited The Promenade, in Cheltenham.
