UK kicks off Recycle Week

On Monday, the nation-wide 2008 Recycle Week campaign kicked off, with the goal of increasing recycling efforts across the country. Recycling Week will last from June 2nd until Sunday June 8th. During that time events have been planned by 185 lcal authorities and organization across the UK.

This year will be the first time the week has been called “Recycle Week” however similar activities have been taking place in the UK every year for the past five years.

This year, councils across the UK will be encouraging householders to reduce waste they may have otherwise overlooked or failed to consider as recycling.

The event has been organized by the non-profit group WRAP, in coordination with British Glass, Corus, Novelis, Paper Chain and Recoup.

The theme this year is “one more thing”, encouraging recyclers to include one more item into their regular recycling habits and to capitalize on a growing awareness of recycling.

A survey was recently published to coincide with the beginning of the special week, which highlighted recycling areas which were frequently forgotten. Recycle Week is designed to inspire residents of the UK to recycle just a little bit more as well as point out the real benefits of doing so.
