Survey finds recycling hotspots

This year, in order to help kick off Recycling Week, new survey has been published which highlights areas of missed opportunities for recycling in the average British household.

This year’s theme for Recycle Week, which kicked off on Monday, is “one more thing” which aims to encourage Britons to fine one more area in the house they could be recycling.

The survey points out a few such areas as recycling “hotspots” where items which could be recycled are often forgotten.

The survey found that only 36 per cent of householders remembered to recycle items from their bathrooms, while 34 per cent remember to recycle things from their bedrooms.

Kitchens are a far more obvious place for recycling, with 62 per cent of householders recycle items from the kitchen. The least recycled kitchen items, however, according to the survey results, were biscuit and sweet times, as well as aerosol containers.

Recycle Week is an initiative of a non-profit group called WRAP who also runs a nation-wide recycling campaign, Recycle Now. The head of the campaign, Fridey Cordingley, said that the survey results supported the group’s motivation for the special event.

She said: “Sometimes we don’t realise how much of our household waste can be easily recycled, or we think that recycling one more thing won’t make a real difference. Recycle Week aims to inspire us all to try and recycle a bit more and highlight that there is a real benefit in doing so.”
