Monday will be the start of Recycling Week and to kick things off sculptor Robert Bradford built a replica of the Big Ben using empty Coca-Cola cans. The six metre tall sculpture was unveiled on the South Bank of London in order to inspire more people to increase their recycling efforts.
The Big Ben sculpture is one of four pieces of art which are being unveiled across the country in order to increase people’s awareness about the need for recycling.
“Recycle Week is a fantastic initiative and does a huge amount to encourage us all to recycle more,” said London Mayor Boris Johnson.
Recycling Week is being launched by WRAP. a non-profit company which helps both companies and people reduce the amount of waste they send to landfills.
In Gateshead, Coca-Cola cans were used to recreate the Angel of the North sculpture. On Monday, models will be unveiled of the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol and of the Birmingham Bull Statue.
