From 2009 the venue of the Chartered Institution of Waste Management conference and exhibition will be London. Before the change the event has traditionally been held in Torbay for over two and a half decades.
The decision to relocate was made by Chartered Institution of Waste Management trustees and the new venue will be Excel in East London.
In the run up to the change exhibitors had been pressuring the Chartered Institution of Waste Management to change venues since the Torbay event in Paignton close to Torquay was considered too remote a location.
A statement from the Chartered Institution of Waste Management Institution revealed that they would be joining hands with the foremost trade association in the waste sector, Environmental Services Association.
Steve Lee, the chief executive officer of the Chartered Institution of Waste Management said that their collaboration with Environmental Services Association would enable them transform the event into a key international platform for the waste and resource management industry in the United Kingdom. The chief executive officer admitted that it was because of listening to their visitors and exhibitors that they had decided to take the event to another level.
Dirk Hazell, the chief executive officer of the Environmental Services Association disclosed that the waste sector was going through rapid changes especially since the rate of recycling had quadrupled in the last ten years and the whole sector desired an event that would entrench the United Kingdom as a leading recycling country in Europe.
The next step now for the Environmental Services Association and the Chartered Institution of Waste Management is rebranding of the event.
