Caerphilly Compost Awareness Week a success

Students in Caerphilly learned a lot about the environment and particularly about reducing, reusing and recycling during this year’s Compost Awareness Week.

From May 4th to May 10th, Caerphilly council’s minimisation team toured the neighbourhood schools, teaching students about the importance of reducing the amount of waste sent to the landfill through composting.

The Bedwas Juniors participated in Compost Awareness Week by running a competition to design their compost bin.

Composting activities around the area were photographed in order to compete for the prize of Caerphilly’s Compost Champion. The prize was awarded to Ynysddu Primary School for their enthusiastic environmental activities.

Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) and The Composting Association organized this year’s Compost Awareness Week, urging people across the country to “Green up their Environment.”

Caerphilly was recently ranked as having the third dirtiest streets in all of Wales, making composting and recycling a priority for those who care about their town and the environment. WRAP and The Composting Association have a joint website where those who want to know more about reducing household waste through composting can learn about composting techniques and tips.
