There is £700 in cash prizes up for grabs in the Kennet Yellow Woods Challenge and the deadline to participate is drawing near. Residents have until May 30th to drop off their used Yellow Page directories at a local school in order to help contribute to the win.
There are 27 schools participating in the challenge across the Kennet area. The challenge is run by Yellow Pages which is promoting not only good environmental practice but also fun and educational opportunities.
Together with the Woodland Trust and Kennet District Council, Yellow Pages is giving out the Gold Oak award and £300 to the school which brings in the most number of old directories per student.
In addition to the cash given to the school, Yellow Pages is also giving the same amount of money to the Woodland Trust in order to contribute to the Trust’s Trees for All campaign.
Kennet District Council is supplying wheeled bins to collect all the old directories and send them to be recycled. After recycling, the directories will be made into cardboard products.
Councillor Mrs Winchcombe, chairman of the community development executive committee at Kennet District Council, said: “The Yellow Woods Challenge has provided residents with a valuable avenue to recycle their old Yellow Pages directories, whilst at the same time helping their local school and reducing the amount which is sent to landfill.”
