Recycling week is coming up and three District Councils are teaming up in order to promote the event in the biggest way possible.
West Wiltshire District Council, Kennet District Council and Wiltshire County Council will be working together to promote Recycling Week, which takes place from June 2nd to June 9th.
Together, they are hoping to push citizens to take extra steps to recycle just a little bit more in order to prevent waste being sent to landfills and save resources.
One of the big themes this year is shopping SMART which means Save Money And Reduce Trash. Shopping SMART includes using less money on fuel by shopping locally and cutting down on our consumption in order to bring less waste into the household.
Cllr Linda Conley, West Wiltshire District Council’s portfolio holder for the environment said: “By shopping SMART we can combat many important issues. It helps tackle climate change - 20 per cent of our emissions are related to the production, processing, transportation and storage of food.”
Road shows will be one of the most significant ways that the Councils will bring their message to the community. The Road show will provide community members with information about using the black kerbside collection box to increase household recycling. The show will be touring the districts throughout the week.
Five independent businesses in the each participating town will be displaying a Recycle for Wiltshire jute bag in their ship windows. Participating towns include in Bradford on Avon, Devizes, Marlborough, Melksham, Trowbridge, Warminster and Westbury. Those who identify all five shops are eligible for prizes. The grand prize winner for all of Wiltshire will receive a family guided tour around the Wadworth Brewery in Devizes and a visit to the Shire Horses and Sign Writing Studio.
