It is possible to travel and still make positive contributions to the environment, particularly as SmartPlanet.com recently released its review of the top ten eco-friendly hotels in the UK.
Staying at a hotel which takes responsibility for its environmental impact is important as these facilities often use less energy than most hotels. A variety of eco-friendly hotels is available in the UK from budget establishment to more luxurious resorts.
Zetter and Strattons are two boutique establishments which combine luxury and environmental friendliness. The Zetter uses technological means to get green whereas Strattons inspires greenness in travelers through local art displays.
Radisson SAS and Apex Hotel are two establishments on the green list which offer luxury for a reasonable price and which attempt to conserve energy in all their brand hotels.
TYF Hotel is a good choice for nature lovers due to its location next to the sea. The simple hotel provides organic offerings although its architecture can’t compare to the traditional building and heritage style of the Bellinter House.
Hotel chains like the Radisson are successful at saving energy because they train staff in measures like select towel cleaning, card activated lights and low-energy lighting. Many green hotels use renewable sources of energy or generate their own energy, which is the case at Bellinter House.
Most eco-hotels recycle whenever possible and provide guests with recycling facilities. They make attempts to reduce packaging, even encouraging delivery companies to reuse packaging.
The top ten hotels identified by SmartPlanet are: Apex Dundee City Quay Hotel and Spa, Bedruthan Steps Hotel, Bellinter House, Milden Hall B&B, Moss Grove Hotel, Paskins Town House, Radisson SAS Hotel Edinburgh, Strattons Hotel and Restaurant, TYF Eco Hotel and The Zetter.
