Sony starts recycling in Hawaii

Sony Hawaii recently announced plans to begin a recycling program for Sony products. In order to begin the program, Sony Hawaii has formed a partnership with Recycle Hawaii.

Consumers with broken Sony products such as radios, televisions, Walkmans, recorders and other devices can hand in the Sony products to the recycling station for free. Non-Sony products can be recycled, but consumers must pay a fee for the service.

The first Sony recycling station is scheduled to set up on Big Island, but a further two stations will be built on Kona and Hilo respectively.

Ned Nomura, the president of Sony Hawaii, said that the company plans to set up recycling centers which are easily accessible to the average American. Sony aims to set up a center within 20 miles of 95 per cent of the American population.

The Sony Take Back Recycling Program was launched across America in September and has already brought in 7 million pounds of electronics, according to Mike Fasulo, chief marketing officer.

Sony will be celebrating its 40th anniversary in Hawaii. As a part of the celebration, the company is releasing several new products into the market including new televisions, cameras and noise-cancelling headphones. One of the newest products from Sony is a smile camera which cannot take photographs unless the subject of the photo smiles.
