The New Age of Recycling

All over the United States, when someone replaces an electrical product, they just throw the old one out in the garbage.  This has not been a good thing to do over the years, because this emits toxic ingredients and hazardous gases into our soil and the air that we breathe.  So in light of this, companies like Sony, Best Buy, Hewlett-Packard, and Office Depot are creating programs where people can recycle their old electronics to better protect the world’s environment.  It has been recorded that there are up to 1.9 million electronics that people just throw out each year.

What The Companies Are Doing

Sony, among these companies, is having a national campaign where they will travel to a series of places in the United States for the “Take Back Recycling Program.”  This will give people the chance to get rid of (recycle) their unwanted televisions, computers, and any other electronic device at no cost.

Best Buy has a program called “Tech Trade-in” where people can bring in their used electronics for a store gift card.  Office Depot has gotten in on the action of recycling by offering consumers an in-store recycling bin.  This also gives the retailer a chance to talk the customer about using their line of green office products when they go in to recycle their unwanted devices.

There is also 1-800-Flowers.com who is launching a recycling program for computers nationwide.  This event will start on June 4th at their headquarters in NC.  They are also giving consumers who donate an old computer the incentive of a 15% off coupon.
