Save the Planet: Bring Your Own Bags

Gathering groceries from the store causes more pounds of trash more year than many people will believe. From the grocery store to your home, the bags which hold your grocery gatherings are used then tossed out with the trash. These bags are made from two products which are both recyclable, but tend to be thrown in the trash rather than recycled. When the checkout person asks paper or plastic, say neither.

The choice of bringing your own bags to the grocery store may not make a change today, but as more and more people move from packing their groceries in bags given by the store to bags they can reuse over and over again, the amount of wasted paper and plastic will drop by the millions of pounds. Reusable grocery bags are a relatively new concept but more and more major grocery retailers are choosing to offer these bags on a regular basis for purchase to the customer.

The upfront cost of these bags can be substantial, especially for the larger family who may only shop once or twice a month. But, the upfront cost will return back to the Earth with only a few uses.

Changing the Earth and the effects of overuse takes only one person at a time. The changes we make today will help the Earth to become more friendly to us all in the many years to come when our children’s children’s children are thanking our generation for the changes we made.
