Good response to Manchester city’s consultations and campaign

Over eleven thousand residents of Manchester City have responded to a consultation process by the City Council aimed at determining the way forward for recycling services in the city. The process is part of Manchester City Council’s campaign to turn the city into a greener and healthier place to work and reside. The campaign will stretch for one hundred days and is currently midway.

A group of canvassers has been hired by Manchester City Council to call on residents of various local communities. Some of the ways people have responded to the consultation include the internet, a toll free line and presenting themselves at focus group meetings. Business firms numbering more than one hundred have also responded to the consultation.

In Manchester City the concept of the ‘One Hundred Days Campaign’ was initially tried four years ago in 2004 and has been growing in stature every passing year. This year for instance, close to three thousand people have participated in various events throughout the city all towards clearing rubbish and more are expected to turn up in the latter half of the campaign. Also, approximately two thousand two hundred and fifty new trees have been planted.

The One Hundred Day Campaign this year also included encouraging the residents of Chorlton to stop using plastic carriers. And with the campaign being midway some five hundred people have promised to stop using the plastic bags. Giving out of power efficient light bulbs and books promoting recycling are also some of the other things that have been accomplished in the One Hundred Day Campaign.
