Council to improve recycling services

In Queensferry new steps are being undertaken to alleviate the problems associated with recycling. In that regard the Local Authority is planning to enhance its existing service after unhappy residents raised their grievances with the City Council. The residents have complained that the recycling banks in the council area are never emptied thus frustrating their efforts to recycle.

The City Council’s Environment Leader, Councillor Robert Aldridge admitted that they were happy with the way the residents of South Queensferry had taken up recycling and reduction of waste. The councillor further revealed that due to rising use of the recycling banks the Council was already considering expansion of the service so that all the recycling needs of the residents were well taken care of. Mr Aldridge further added that the Council was still dedicated to raising the rates of recycling.

Currently the recycling banks located at Scotmid on The Loan and Tesco are still being serviced thrice a week whereas the packaging bank situated at Scotstoun Grove is serviced twice a week.

In the recent past, members of the public in High Street have registered complaints to the effect that they were excluded from the kerbside recycling scheme. In response a spokesperson for the City Council denied this saying that the residents of High Street had been asked to communicate with the Council’s Department of Environment if they wanted to be part of the collection scheme but the service had not been well received in High Street with only fifteen residents signing up.
