While members of the public have expressed their satisfaction with the housing services provided by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, the waste collection and recycling services have not been so impressive. This is according to the annual report.
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council received a “fair” rating by the national watchdog of the Audit Commission. There were five possible ratings that the local authority could have received.
Michel Saminaden the Chief Executive hailed the rating saying that their employees were dedicated and determined to provide the highest quality of services possible. The chief executive pointed to the fact that close to forty per cent of their indicators were in the top quartile compared to other councils where the average was thirty three per cent. He added that the inspectors who conducted the audit acknowledged that in their report.
Michael Saminaden added that the local authority was set in making improvements in an effort to better achieve their goals while working towards excellence.
The local authority which is in the hands of the Tories was commended for their housing service by the auditors. Approximately ninety two per cent of the properties in the council had met the national standards and the energy efficiency of the same properties was seen as one of the leading in the nation.
However the auditors were not as thrilled by the waste collection and recycling services where members of the public were disenchanted with the council.
Margaret Birleson, the leader of Labour leader criticised the local authorities saying it was disappointing the residents. In response, Michael Saminaden disclosed that collection and recycling of waste had been greatly enhanced ever since the inspectors had visited the council.
