Building of composting plant begins

The building of a composting plant has started at Hillbarton in Essex. The composting plant is being constructed at a cost of two and a half million pounds and the work is being undertaken by Verdia Horticulture Ltd.

The composting plant has a capacity of processing fourteen thousand tonnes of green and food waste annually and this will generate about eight thousand tonnes of compost for use in horticultural activities before the year ends.

Verdia Horticulture Ltd will get waste from the private sector as well as the deals it hopes to get into with local authorities. Equipment for the plant will be sourced from TEG.

The Chief Executive Officer of TEG, Mick Fishwick was elated at the developments and hoped that many more such plants would be constructed in the future. Concerning the building of a TEG Silo Cage facility, the Chief Executive of TEG observed that it was a vote of confidence in the quality of TEG technology. He further disclosed that they were planning to launch a TEG plant in the South West area.

The Exeter composting facility is one of the six to eight medium size composting plants that Verdia Horticulture Ltd is intending to build in the United Kingdom in the coming two to three years in an effort to meet the rising demand for composting plants.

According to Verdia Horticulture Ltd, approximately twenty eight million tonnes of biodegradable municipal waste will need to be rerouted from ending up in landfill sites by the year 2020.

The Managing Director of Glendale who are partnering with TEG, Nick Temple-Heald, said the new plant will open expansion possibilities for them.
