Composting plant gets new owners

The composting plant that Agrivert has been operating at the Edmonton EcoPark in the north of London has been turned over to LondonWaste Ltd, a client of Agrivert. Running of the five million pound facility will now be in the hands of LondonWaste Ltd.

Agrivert constructed the composting facility in 2005 and every year the plant has been processing approximately thirty thousand tonnes of food and green waste.

A spokesperson for LondonWaste Ltd, Wendy Lord, admitted that LondonWaste Ltd had been for a long time wanting to run the EcoPark Compost Centre. The spokesperson gave assurance that the change of hands of the plant had been well orchestrated and that there would be no interruption of normal services at the plant.

The two firms, Agrivert and LondonWaste Ltd, have had to dispute rumours that the change of control for the plant was necessitated by the odour problems at the composting facility that were experienced in the summer heat wave of 2006.

In 2006 the composting facility was issued with an enforcement order after residents protested about the bad odour. To solve the problem, Biodegma GmbH, a German firm specialising in compost engineering, was called in to deal with the crisis and measures were put in place to avoid further complications.

Agrivert’s Finance Director, Robert McGrigor, said the change of control of the composting plant was not related to the odour crisis arguing that if it were so then the changeover would have happened as soon as the problem occurred. The Finance Director emphasised that they had always ensured that LondonWaste Ltd remained a happy customer and their agreement had been an interim service one right from the start.
