Materials recycling facility opened in North Pembrokeshire

The Welsh minister for the environment, sustainability and housing, Ms Jane Davidson has officially launched a materials recycling facility plant in North Pembrokeshire.

The latest AJ Recycling plant is situated adjacent to its existing operations at Boncath, close to Cardigan. The plant has the capacity to process up to twenty five thousand tonnes of waste annually.

The materials recycling facility will deal with paper, cardboard boxes, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastic and glass. It will also process household waste as well as commercial waste.

In a deal with Pembrokeshire county council the plant will be getting a percentage of the authority’s commingled kerbside household recycling collections, which comprises of plastic bottles, aluminium cans, paper and cardboard boxes.

With the plant having already started processing waste, a director of the firm, Sonia Jenkins, said that it is presently operating at a level where it can handle anywhere between twelve thousand and fifteen thousand tonnes of waste annually.

Sonia Jenkins revealed that the firm had been built from scratch in a period spanning the last 18 months to twenty four months. She also explained that the materials recycling facility was operating alongside the firm’s existing tyre collection and recycling services.

Andrew Jenkins, another director of AJ Recycling confessed that he was proud to be associated with a firm that was offering a much needed service in a highly rural area. He hoped it would turn out to be of great benefit to present and future generation of customers and that it would be fully exploited to help in meeting the environmental goals.
