WEEE recycling plant to be opened in Northamptonshire

Wincanton, a logistics firm is seeking permission to construct another Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment recycling centre in Daventry, Northamptonshire.

The second such centre for Wincanton in Northamptonshire will need an investment to the tune of over five million pounds. The new Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment recycling centre will have twice the capacity as that of the present plant in Billingham, Teeside which begun operations in 2006.

If the permission to construct the plant is given, the new plant is expected to use technology designed and produced by MeWa, an engineering firm in Germany. It is expected that it will have the capacity to process up to a hundred thousand tonnes of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment annually.

The new plant, once permission is granted, is expected to begin operations before the year ends. The new plant would also provide support to Wincanton’s national network of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment recycling sites that are spread all over the country.

Gordon Scott, the managing director of Wincanton, said the new and huge investment affirmed their commitment to the recycling of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment. He added that the refurbishment, sortation and recycling service they provide to local authorities, retailers and manufacturers would be reinforced by the new recycling centre in Midlands which will raise the capacity by double.

The announcement by Wincanton comes hot on the heels of a revelation by the logistics firm of an existing collaboration with Comet, a manufacturer and retailer of electrical goods.

Besides Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment recycling Wincanton will now be involved in countrywide reverse logistics and asset recovery.
