Saving money while saving the environment

It’s a problem that has existed for ages for parents with growing children – spending money on highly-priced items such as clothes or shoes only for the children to outsize them in just a few months.

A new initiative which aims to eliminate such problems has been praised by environmentalists as well as parents with growing children. A recently launched retail outlet known as Little Green Monkeys has been started with the main customer target being parents who are tired of spending thousands of pounds on children’s items which the children outsize in a short time.

The shop is located in a Cardiff suburb and is believed to be one of the first enterprises of its kind in the United Kingdom. The shop is operated by the mother and daughter duo of Lorraine Middleton and Ashley Beard. The shop sells items that are almost new on customers’ behalf and then the selling price is shared between the seller and the outlet.

Mrs. Beard came up with the concept after going through first-hand the costs of preparing for the coming of a new-born and then the expenses incurred as the children grow. Mrs. Beard admitted that in her case she was not ready for the wide range of important items necessary for a new-born most of which only last a short time.

The founder of Sustainable Wales, Margaret Minhinnick was one of those who welcomed the ‘Little Green Monkeys’ shop concept. She urged the Welsh Assembly Government and Local Authorities to support green business start-ups that are making a worthwhile contribution to the community around them
