The list of those who scooped the ‘More Than Recycling’ Awards which is run by Community Recycling Network for Scotland has been made public.
Among those who walked away with prizes at the award ceremony which was held in Perth included Highland Council, Enviroglass and Moray Recycling Action Group’s Green Home initiative.
The aim of the ‘More Than Recycling’ Awards is to acknowledge initiatives that had a big impact in 2007 on recycling in the Scottish community. Over forty five organisations were in contention for the three prizes available.
In the Innovation Category, Enviroglass, which is run by the Shetland Amenity Trust, won. This arose from its innovative way of using waste glass in the making of paving slabs.
The Local Authority Partnership Award on the other hand was given to Highland Council which was praised for supporting the Waste Diversion Agreements which saw approximately four thousand tonnes of waste rerouted from landfills last year.
The Community Recycling Network for Scotland Member of the Year award went to Moray Recycling Action Group. This was in recognition of its furniture reuse initiative called ‘Green Home’ where they collect household items lying in disuse and then they are reallocated through various local retail establishments.
Heath Gardner, the Green Home’s chief executive was grateful for the award which was a testimony to the effort and dedication they had made into ensuring that the Green Home initiative was a success. He pledged that they would go on promoting the idea that waste was a resource which could benefit the society both economically and socially.
