A recycling service operated by Falkirk Council has achieved tremendous success and has been picked for a major recycling award.
Falkirk Council is a contender for the local authority partnership award during this year’s Community Recycling Network for Scotland awards which are held annually.
Falkirk Council together with Action Recycle has been able to ensure the provision of a waste recycling collection service to nine-tenths of all multi-occupancy properties in its area of jurisdiction.
One of the services Action Recycle offers is the “blue bag” service. The ‘blue bag’ services focuses on the recycling of dry waste such as newspapers, magazines and tin cans for example.
Multi-occupancy premises have been a challenge when it comes to waste collection for various reasons including poor accessibility and space limitations but the cooperation between Falkirk Council and Action Recycle has ensured that a workable solution is found.
Adrian Mahoney, Environment and Heritage Committee Convener admitted that the Council was happy to be nominated for this year’s Community Recycling Network for Scotland awards. Adrian Mahoney observed that by having been short listed for the Local Authority Partnership Award, the awareness levels of the people had gone up concerning the importance of recycling of waste. The Environment and heritage committee convener hoped that other communities elsewhere would emulate them and enhance recycling efforts in their respective places.
In the history of the Community Recycling Network for Scotland awards this year has seen the stiffest competition. From all over Scotland a sum of forty two nominations were confirmed to have been received.
