A waste company has been placed in administration following a large fire that has ruined the firm.
With the North Yorkshire-based company going into administration, more than 30 jobs in the area are expected to be lost. The firm, which was forced to make 33 of its 37 staff redundant this week, suffered staggering losses after its facility at Marston Moor Business Park in Tockwith was consumed by the blaze. BCB Environmental Management Ltd will retain the remaining five members of its staff to oversee clean-up at the site, but then will make them redundant as well.
Sheffield’s P&A Partnership will take over the administration of the firm and the former waste treatment facility. Prior to the fire, the Tockwith plant handled the treatment and disposal of non-hazardous industrial waste and hazardous rubbish. The administrators said in a statement that the company’s facility was destroyed on 11 August and that certain measures had to be taken to safeguard the public in nearby Fleet Beck. They added that clean-up and containment efforts were ongoing and being supervised by the Environment Agency.
Following the blaze, the waste firm had been served with an Anti Pollution Works Notice from the Environment Agency. This, according to administrators, required the firm to take immediate action to ensure local residents safety. The Health and Safety Executive has begun to investigate the cause of the fire.
