Pochin Construction completes Tesco recycling centre in Widnes

Cheshire-based Pochin PLC’s construction arm, Pochin Construction announced that it has completed Tesco’s new £16m fit-out for its chilled distribution and recycling facility in Widnes.

Originally contracted for the project in 2009, the firm was hired to construct a 350,000 sq ft chilled distribution building along with a 134,000 sq ft recycling plant for the Stobart Group. The £22m contract, however, was transfered by Stobart Group when they leased the property to Tesco. Tesco then retained Pochin to build the existing facility in a separate contract measuring at £16m.

The chilled distribution centre has been built in sections to cater to Tesco’s requirement for several rooms at different temperatures. The fit-out has also been outfitted with three separate office spaces for onsite management teams.

In addition, the brand new Tesco facility contains another separate office building and a canteen area for workers. Project Manager for Pochin Construction, Tony Quick said that the original winning contract and subsequent deal with Tesco to fit-out the space was a testament to the firm’s ability to construct a highly specific facility while staying on budget.

The recycling centre will be used by Tesco for its chilled distribution and packaging and goods recycling. The Widnes-based facility has now been fully completed and is ready for commissioning and use.
