Cell Phone Recycling Week serves as a reminder

As National Cell Phone Recycling Week kicks off in the US, the environmentally conscious are being reminded of the benefits of keeping their mobiles away from landfill. Although recycling phone has become more fashionable in recent years, there’s a still a long way to go before it can be safely said that no phones end up on the rubbish tip.

This week, the Environmental Protection Agency is spearheading the National Cell Phone Recycling Week in a bid to encourage Americas to throw out phones responsibly. It’s estimated that the average person has at least one old phone lying about, so what are the benefits for recycling them?

Firstly, you can get a good amount of money by recycling your old mobiles. Many phone shops now offer cash off your next purchase if you choose to recycle with them and phone recycling websites have sprung up everywhere in recent years. Most sites will offer you an instant quote for your handset depending on the make and model, and all you have to do is sent them off.

You can get more than £100 for some more modern handsets when you choose to recycle, but if you decide you don’t need the money there is always charity to consider. Many schemes in the US see donated mobiles shipped out to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, so they can then keep in touch with loved ones with ease.

Another good reason to recycle your cell is because it gives you a chance to shed some clutter that seems so unavoidable in modern life. But above all, Americans and the eco-minded across the world are being reminded that sending phones and other electrical equipment to landfill if bad for the environment.
