Group says recycling is just part of being a citizen

A new report claims that recycling household waste is an integral part of being a good citizen.

The Local Government Association (LGA) earlier this week said that landfill space in Britain would run out, and warned that it could happen in eight years time if recycling rates are not improved upon quickly. Furthermore, the report warned that council tax rates could rise even further so new schemes could be funded and existing recycling infrastructure could be improved.

Waste Watch has urged tax payers that the increase should be weathered as part of being a good citizen. The pro-recycling group said that Britons should not be annoyed at recycling taxes but see recycling household waste as a means to support your country.

Spokesman for the watchdog, Mike Webster, said that more and more Britons were adopting recycling as part of their daily life. He added that he believes the education children are receiving today about keeping recycling as a priority will serve Britain well in the future.

These reports come in the wake of Defra announcing a complement overhaul of the current waste policy for Britain. Additionally, councils across the country have begun to increase recycling schemes as looming UK and EU deadlines force them to amp up efforts.

The new coalition government has taken a strong stance against bin taxes, saying that recycling is best promoted with incentives not punishments. Despite the government and householders strong reactions against bin fines, however, some local authorities have continued to implement them.
