Car rental company launches new green website

A leading car rental company has set up an environmental information website to respond to growing customer concerns about green motoring issues. Avis UK’s micro-site follows research which found that 64 per cent of Europeans want to protect the environment. This figure is up from just 55 per cent in 2007.

The company claims that the creation of the micro-site marks the next step in its commitment to become more environmentally responsible. The website will share information on what Avis has been doing over the past ten years to prevent spills and leaks, reduce emissions, recycle and cut waste.

Drivers can also learn how to reduce their carbon footprint by getting involved with CarbonNeutral projects. Avis achieved CarbonNeutral status in 1997 and was the first car rental company to do so.

Eighty per cent of those polled by Avis also said that businesses should be penalised if they are bad for the environment. In another recent study, 32 per cent of Britons and 45 per cent of Europeans said they would like to minimise the impact that their travel has on climate change.

Nick Mountfield, Avis UK’s head of marketing, said the site was designed to build on the company’s long-term environmental commitments by educating their customers on the work they were doing. He added that the site would also offer suggestions on how their customers can make their own lives a little greener.
