West Yorkshire council hopes to get more households recycling

It has been reported that some individuals in West Yorkshire are failing to recycle their household rubbish.

For several years the local authority has been trying to encourage householders to recycle their metal, paper, glass, and plastic, but feel that the message is still not getting through. Councillors have said that there are still some people who are not interested in taking part in recycling programmes. Despite recycling bins being handed out widely in Bradford, it is being reported that some householders are still failing to use them.

One councillor told the Yorkshire Post that many households are placing everything in the regular bin because they do not want to be bothered with the recycling one. He added that some still hold the belief that the council promoted recycling because they make money off it.

Despite some people’s lack of recycling effort, the council is still optimistic that the overall recycling message is being accepted by a majority of the residents. Bradford Council’s environment and sustainability chair, Ghazanfer Khaliq said that the authority would look to encourage more people to begin recycling in order to increase local figures.

The current campaign is geared towards people that are educated on recycling practices, but have yet to use them. Others targeted by the campaign will include households that sporadically recycle, but have not yet done so on a regularly basis. The council will look to build on top of the existing campaign ‘Stop It’ ongoing in the Holme Wood region in Bradford.
