Rural Priorities fund creates 530 new jobs in rural Scotland

A new £60million scheme Government scheme is set to create over 500 jobs in rural Scotland.

Richard Lochhead, the Rural Affairs and Environment Secretary said that the funding will go to a Fyvie recycling firm and a pig farm in Stonehaven, as well as other smaller projects. The funding has been made available through the Rural Priorities initiative, and will sustain a total of 430 jobs and create an additional 530.

Mr Lochhead stated that during these difficult economic times, the creation of jobs across the nation was essential, particularly in the rural communities. In total, 4,500 projects will be receiving £330million from the fund, he added. A total of 530 new jobs will be created.

According to Mr Lochhead, the scheme has been encouraged by the applications of thousands of projects coming forward to receive funding. He added that the projects will not only create jobs, but boost the rural economy as well as deliver huge environmental benefits to the area.

Rural Priorities provides for both business and environmental support. The Stonehaven pig farm will get £466,140 from the fund towards an increase in its animal numbers and to create a host of storage facilities. A business in Aberdeenshire will also receive more than £250,000 for its work with recycling stone from demolition sites.
