May Gurney wins 14-year long recycling contracts

May Gurney announced today a boost for its environmental business with plans in the works for two long-haul waste recycling deals.

Over the next 14 years, the waste management firm will manage contracts worth up to £60m in conjunction with the North Yorkshire County Council. As part of the deals, May Gurney will oversee 17 Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs).

The contract, which will expire in seven years, is valued at at least £24m with the opportunity to extend a further three years at the contract’s end. Also Offered as a long-term recycling and waste collections deal, the second contract will begin later this Autumn for the West Oxfordshire District Council for an initial seven year period. Once the seven years has expired, May Gurney will have the option to extend an additional seven years. The contract has been valued at £36m.

According to Philip Fellowes-Prynne, chief executive of the firm, May Gurney has continued to secure its position as a key provider for UK front-line services as a municipal waste management company. He added that the new contracts would help support each council’s sustainability targets as well as encourage householders to recycle more. Additionally, they will reduce the rubbish intake levels at landfills nearby.

Mr Fellows-Prynne said the company is uniquely poised to help the council because of its expertise in this area in delivering front-line services as well as being able to support the clients’ goals for efficiency. May Gurney is expected to post its preliminary financial data for the fiscal year end 31 March by 2 June.
