NWDA sponsors grant for carbon reduction technology development

The Northwest Climate Change Action Plan will include a grant for up to £2 million to be handed out by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) to small businesses looking to develop innovative carbon saving technologies.

Working with Envirolink Northwest, the grant will be a way to promote small to mid-sized enterprises endeavor to develop new equipment that will reduce carbon emissions further. Companies working in a variety of categories in this sector will be eligible to apply for the funds. These include waste treatment, recycling centres, air pollution, water pollution, energy generation and efficiency, and land remediation.

The NWDA in conjunction with the European Regional Development Fund’s Grant for Research and Development have collectively made the funds available for the grant. A part of Solutions for Business, Grant for Research and Development aims to help companies developing innovative new products secure government funded needed for design, production, and growth.

SME’s looking to invest in emission reducing projects can apply for between £20,000 and £250,000 to cover 40 per cent of costs for all technology development projects. Chief executive of NWDA, Steven Broomhead said that the NWDA looks to aid Northwestern businesses to take advantage of opportunities for growth in this sector. The Carbon Reduction Demonstrator Awards will provide SME’s with the means to develop carbon lowering technologies, he added.

Carbon reduction technology is becoming an increasingly important sector as businesses, governments, and households try to cut down on carbon emissions. Industries across the board are looking to cut costs and make businesses more environmentally friendly by curbing emissions outputs.
