Axion, a Europe-based recycling specialist, is seeking partners for a £5m capital grant being offered by the Scottish Government.
The Zero Waste Scotland programme is looking for developers interested in designing a plastics reprocessing infrastructure for Scotland. Axion will look to join with other specialised firms to apply for the grant following the announcement from the government.
Axion has now put out statements asking for developers who wish to partner as ‘facilitators’ on mixed-plastics processing projects. Axion’s announcement places an emphasis on the partner firms taking a large role in operating the facilities.
According to Axion director Keith Freegard, the recycling firm hopes to encourage and aid other companies through the process of establishing a mixed-plastics processing plant. Mr Freegard said that Axion would help the firm takes its design model from concept development to a fully-delivered project. He added that Axion was not attempting to break into household plastics recycling, but did want to pass on knowledge, project management skills, and engineering expertise to other firms.
Services from Axion will include business planning, as well as assistance with grant preparation and aid in liaising with the Zero Waste Scotland programme. The recycling specialist has asked that all interested participants submit applications by August 2010.
Mr Freegard urged firms to apply, saying that the scheme is aimed at creating opportunities to recover and collect greater quantities of plastics waste at cost-effective prices. He added that the recovered plastic can then be used for new products.
