Ford extends Recycle Your Ride incentive programme

Thanks to overwhelming consumer feedback, Ford is to extend its Recycle Your Ride scheme. According to the company, nearly 60 per cent of the firm’s vehicles in Canada are old enough to qualify for the car makers’ retirement programme.

Ford has said that beginning 1 May 2010, customers who turn in a 2003 model vehicle or older will receive up to $3,000 to put towards a 2010 Lincoln or Ford model vehicle. In conjunction with Summerhill Impact, Ford will be able to expand the programme to reach more consumers.

David Mondragon, CEO and president at Ford Canada, said that the exclusive partnership with Summerhill Impact allows Ford to be the sole firm to retire 1996 to 2003 vehicles. Mr Mondragon added that the Ford Exclusive Recycle Your Ride initiative gives consumers a boost towards the purchase of a new Ford vehicle.

Automotive Recyclers of Canada said that Ford will be able to recycle over 80 per cent of parts from each vehicle by reusing, remanufacturing, or recycling material. Summerhill Impact said that any vehicle older than 1996 produces 19 times the amount of smog pollutants than models newer than 2004.

Anyone interested in purchasing a 2010 Lincoln or Ford model vehicle can qualify for the programme by turning in a vehicle made in or before 2003. Rewards will vary by vehicle model, with $1,000 awarded towards a compact car, $2,000 for a SUV or crossover, and $3,000 for a full-size truck.
