Fans of the Asos clothing label will now be able to use the retailer’s website to recycle clothing in an online virtual marketplace. The site, expected to be launched later on in the year, will allow customers to use the service to sell their own personal clothing as well as buy from others.
The marketplace has been designed to reach an untapped niche of customers looking for vintage and environmentally friendly clothing. The website will also allow independent fashionistas and burgeoning designers to showcase their wares as well. Larger, more established companies will also be able to sell through the site.
Nick Robertson, chief executive for Asos, said that the Asos family was excited to be expanding to fit today’s market needs. According to Mr Robertson, the website is designed to be a sellers’ platform, allowing corporate and individual customers of the firm to shape the future of fashion.
Mr Robertson added that the site would be both an opportunity for corporate customers of the business to reach a broader customer base, as well as a way for start-up fashion designers and companies to sell their goods.
In other fashion news, eBay launched a similar site, that allows customers to sell their own clothes. eBay Fashion also features a platform that allows fashion enthusiasts to sell their products in an accessible way.
